Foster care, also known as Alternative Care, provides children and young people with a safe, nurturing and stable home to live when it is not possible for them to live at home with their parents or family.
Foster Care - Non Family Based

Respite Care is planned, regular short term care, aimed at helping families achieve stability by providing respite from child care responsibilities. Respite care also helps to preserve the integrity of Foster Care, Relative Care and other Alternative Care placements by providing a break from care responsibilities and thus preventing placement breakdown. Respite care is also provided to families who are clients of Department for Child Protection, as an intervention aimed at preventing breakdown in the relationship between the child and the caregiver. Respite Care is also utilized during Family Reunification.
